The Charlotte Children’s Center is dedicated to recruiting and retaining experienced teachers who are working toward or have already obtained a degree in Early Childhood Education. In addition, all teachers are trained in Pediatric First Aid and Infant/ Child CPR. Each teacher must also complete 18 hours continuing education in the field of Early Childhood Education each year. This helps ensure that staff are knowledgeable and up to date in the most current Early Childhood research and practices.
Teachers have also recently studied the Vermont Agency of Education’s newly revised Early Learning Standards (VELS). To best support each child, the staff uses the standards to design, implement, and assess their curriculum planning.
The VELS is intended to be a resource for teachers and families to answer two questions:
1. What should children know and be able to do to prepare them to succeed in school and life?
2. What experiences should be available in homes, schools, and communities to help them gain the knowledge and skills that prepare them for school and life?
